Following an alcohol-induced, relationship-combusting one-night stand, Isabelle Beckett finds herself suddenly single. Caught up in her big-city career with an art auction house, her life is an enviable whirl of glamorous gallery openings, avant-garde ironing boards, and once-in-a-lifetime discoveries. That is, until Isabelle faces the fact that being single in a strange city is an experience for which she is quite unprepared.

Forced to contend with hostile taxi drivers, fanged spiders in the shower, and the humiliation of being discovered by her latest crush in a wetsuit-tutu combo, she struggles to retain her dignity and belief in romantic destiny. And then, just when she seems to be regaining control of life, Isabelle finds herself on the hit list of a Serial Dater.

Previously I read "The Wish List" by Melaine La'Brooy which I liked and decided to read another one of her books. This happened to be it. The book looked promising from the blurb, so I was eager to read it. However, within the first few pages of this book I felt that the main character, Isabelle, was a complainer who likes to exaggerate everything - this did not change further on in the book. There is a spider scene that I became really frustrated reading. Isabelle encounters a spider in her bathroom and has a full-blown panic attack! She makes the spider sound as if it was some kind of axe-wilding murderer or terrorist. As a person who is affraid of spiders, I can say that I definitely WOULDN'T let a spider out of my sight, let alone lock it in the bathroom and baracade the gap between the door and floor with books!! Why? Not only is this a ridiculous idea but if it hid somewhere I would be scared that it would come in to my room at night while I was sleeping... The description of this scene included a description of the spider singing -- almost halucination-like which I rolled my eyes at and said aloud, "Seriously?". I read several more chapters before I loathed the main character SO much I stopped reading. Isabelle should take a Xanax, so she isn't so wound up about everything. I've never in my life, until this point, given up on a book. It isn't something easy for me to do even if the story drags on, but reading anymore of this book would be extreme torture.... I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone unless they enjoy being tortured by annoying characters and exaggerated descriptions.
